Africa, the main component in the Cuban culture, returns to receive Wemilere, the party where the roots speak in the prime village of Guanabacoa.
The 25th edition of the contest will take place from 9 to 17 of this month and will be mainly dedicated to the 500 years of Havana.The existence of Afro-descendants in the formation and development of our nationality has been essential, because from their work as slaves emergedthe great Creole wealth and the Spanish empire, but many of the traditionsthat identify us were also born.
Guanabacoa has the privilege of being a natural place of various mixed cultures, which is distinguished, among most localities in Havana, by the strong legacy for the Island, especially in music.
The recognized diplomatic group in our country coming from the entire African and Caribbean regionwill be present in the opening activities of the FestivalWemilere, as well as other guests and authorities from 15 capital municipalities.
The contest will offer a wide range of activities to all audiences,including an Academic Day with a Colloquium, tours to places of historical interest and a literary forum.Likewise, participants in the twenty-fifth edition of Wemilere will have the opportuniy to enjoy a diverse artistic agendawith social events, rumba musicwith drums in the neighborhoods, the popular fair ‘’El Diablito’’, performances of dance groups, galas at the Hall ‘’Lo Africano’’, as well as associated exhibitions.
During the event people interested can participate in a unique exchange among prestigious artists, intellectuals and the local community Guanabacoa, better knownfor these living traditions, so in the most unexpected corner of the colonial town, it will not be difficult to feel a moving rumba or listen to the sacred voice of the ‘’batá drums’’.
