Havana, Cuba. - A wide sample of the multiple aesthetics of musical creation in many Latin American and Caribbean nations will be reviewed from next April 8 to 12, in the VIII Casa de las Americas Composition Contest.
The Latin American Composition and Singing Workshop will be held simultaneously, in which a jury of experts will choose the winning piece. The event will be attended by guests like Argentinean Patricia Martinez, winner in 2015; as well as Cuban maestro Leo Brouwer, whose 80 years will be celebrated.
One of the training and professional development events that will take place during the week is the interdisciplinary creation workshop on micro-world composition for young composers, coached by Patricia Martinez herself.
There will be also a workshop on real time audio processing tools for musicians, sponsored by the University of Quilmes, the Ludwig Foundation and the Sound Farm Improvisation Foundation, taught by Havana Interactive Ensemble at Casa de las Americas.
Special mention to the meeting with Leo Brouwer, where musicians, composers, students and the general public will have the chance to freely exchange with the maestro.
As customary in the event, the Composition Contest Collection of Casa de las Americas Publishing Fund will present the winning piece of last contest: "Diamante Duende" for mixed choir a Capella, by Venezuelan Adrian Suarez.
The biennial meeting was founded at the behest of the outstanding Cuban pianist Harold Gramatges. Every year, it features the vast spectrum of musical authors in the region, who work from the most traditional languages to the latest digital sonority.
